"I believe there exists One Supreme Being
- the Absolute Infinite -
a Dynamic Force that governs the world and universe.
It is an unseen spiritual power that vibrates
and all other powers fade into insignificance beside it.
So, therefore it is Absolute!..

I shall call it "Reiki" ...

Being a universal force from the Great Divine Spirit,
it belongs to all who seek and desire to learn
the art of healing."

- Hawayo Takata

Reiki has its foundation in Tibetan Buddhism and
is Universal Life Force Energy. It has been known as

ki to the Japanese,
ka to the Egyptians,
prana to the Hindu,
chi in Chinese medicine and
mana in the Hawaiian Huna tradition.

Rei means "free passage" and
Ki means "universal life energy" in Japanese.

Virtually every culture has had its name for this life force energy.

The Legend** of Reiki

**as it was taught to me

Mikai Usui was a minister and a principal of a
Christian school, Doshisha University, in Kyoto,
Japan in the mid 1800's.
His students continually questioned him about
how Jesus was able to heal yet those
that followed him could not.

Usui searched through ancient Chinese Holy writings
and eventually made his way to Northern India
where he continued his search.

He returned to Japan where he discovered some ancient
symbols in the Buddhist Sutras which appeared to contain
some of the answers to his questions.

He travelled to the nearby Holy Mountain of Kuriyama just
outside Kyoto and while facing the east,
he laid out 21 stones and began a period of meditation and fasting.
Each day Usui picked up one stone, asking God
to reveal an understanding of the Sanskrit symbols
in the Buddhist Sutras.

On the last day of the fast Usui prayed asking God to answer his prayer.
Suddenly he saw a beam of light come toward him and it burst upon him.
It struck him in the middle of his forehead and knocked him to the ground, unconscious.
He felt at that momemt as though he had died.
Then he saw millions of coloured bubbles of pink,
blue, lilac and all the colours of the rainbow.
The Sanskrit symbols appeared to him in gold in front of his eyes.
This was the beginning of the Usui method of natural healing
which we know as Reiki.

Transmission of Reiki Energy

Today, Reiki is passed on though attunements.
An attunement is a sacred process where a Reiki Master
activates Reiki Energy and passes it on to the initiate
who is then in tune with this energy for laying-on of hands.

Once attuned to Reiki initiates have this energy for the
rest of their lives for personal expansion on all levels of
body, mind, emotion and spirit.

An off-shoot of Reiki is its therapeutic use in the process
of physical healing.
There are five levels or degrees of Reiki and each of these
include attunements.
The initiate also receives the Sanskrit symbols for activating
the higher levels of energy when they receive the level of
Second and Third Degree.

Reiki I

is four attunements and opens the healing centres in the hands.

Reiki II

is a tremendous increase in energy and the student receives three symbols.

The first symbol activates the increase of energy.

The second symbol is specifically for aligning the heart, throat,
third eye and crown chakras.
It also helps release stress.

Reiki III

is two attunements and a fourth symbol. It has tremendous impact on
ones connection to their Higher Self and Divine Purpose.
It moves one from job to vocation and catapults them into the
fifth and sixth dimension where there is a tremendous
acceleration of the life path.

Reiki Master

is two attunements and instruction on how to give Reiki I, II and III attunements.
There is a tremendous increase in personal energy and healing presence.

Master Teacher

is two more attunements and the fifth Reiki symbol.
With this symbol a Master Teacher can give Reiki Master and Master Teachers.

Laying on of Hands

Once a Reiki initiate has received attunements they are
then considered a Reiki practitioner and can give treatments
to themselves or others.

The treatments consist of laying-on of hands and
may be short term when applied to a small area of the
body which is in pain or experiencing stress or it may
be a full body treatment which lasts approximately one hour.
Reiki infuses life force energy into the receiver and often
relieves pain, speeds up the healing process, reduces stress and
revitalizes the energy of the receiver.

Unlike other forms of hands-on healing, Reiki does not require any faith
in a particular religion or dogma.
It is used by Buddhists, Baptists, Catholics and Krishnas.
It supports and assists the body/mind in regaining
and maintaining harmony and balance.
Reiki does not drain practitioners of their energy because
the energy applied to the subject in a treatment
is the Universal Life Force energy, which is infinite,
and not from the practitioners' own personal resources.
There is no need for the practitioners to hold any particular
type of conscious belief for this system to be effective.
