How to wrap Spirelli Templates
by Chris Stern / CS Designs

Note: I wrap left handed (I hold the thread in my left hand and the Spirelli Template in my right) so these instructions may be quite different from other instructions available on the web.

1.) Tape sting to the back of Spirelli Template
2.) Bring string to the front in-between notch 1 and run across top to settle in notch 2
3.) From notch 2 the thread will go underneath and come up again in notch 3
4.) From notch 3 it will go over the top surface to notch 4 etc.
5.) This type of wrapping pattern will repeat until each notch has 2 threads in it.
6.) Finished Spirelli shown in Figure 3

Note: Contrary to popular belief there really is no set pattern one must follow to produce nice Spirelli pieces as long as your wrapping is consistent in the number of notches between each thread wrap. It also does not matter where you chose to start. The only difference in which notch you decide to make number 2 is the size of the open area where there is no string. Sometimes a large open area is desirable when you want to use a center embellishment such as a brad, eyelet or small stamped image.

When you want quite a few string layers to your Spirelli piece, it is a good idea to make the center as tight as possible. Figure 9 below has 3 layers of string.

To achieve the final effect shown in Figure 9,
1.) Start with Figure 7 - 8. When piece looks like Figure 8, tape end of string to back and cut
2.) Tape another string to back & continue by following Figure 1 -3. Tape end of string to back and cut.
3.) Continue with Figure 4 - 6. FInished piece should look like Figure 9

The Spirelli design used in this tutorial is available in my Free Sample Kit.
The basics of these instructions should work pretty much with any Spirelli shape.
